President Lungu In Rwanda

Zambian President Edgar Lungu this week travelled to Rwanda for a two-day state visit.

During the trip President Lungu held closed door talks with Rwandan President Paul Kagame. He also attended a board meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for Africa at the Kigali Convention Centre, appearing on a panel alongside Liberian Vice President Dr Jewel Taylor and African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The SDG conference brought together around 2,000 participants from civil society, government and the private sector. During the conference a UN report was released entitled ‘Africa 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Three-Year Reality Check’. The report warned that only three of the 17 goals set in 2015 were likely to be met by 2030.

The goals most likely to be achieved were those on gender equality, climate action and life on land, according to the report. It also warned of a funding gap for achieving the SDGs in Africa of between $500 billion and $1.2 trillion.
