National Labour Organisation Leader Declares Interest in Namibian Presidency

Evilastus Kaaronda, the leader of Namibia’s National Labour Organisation, has declared his interest in contesting the presidency in the upcoming elections due in November 2019.

Kaaronda has also announced plans to form a political party ahead of the polls that will put forward candidates for the National Assembly elections.

Member of the ruling Swapo party Panduleni Itula has already declared his intention to run, stating he would do so as an independent.

Commenting on his presidential ambitions Kaaronda stated that he hoped to bring a new political direction to the country.

“It is only fair that a new political direction is found. A political direction that is driven by the working people of our country, driven by the young people, the unemployed. The political direction that would genuinely speak to the true concerns of our people.” he stated.

Incumbent President Hage Geingob has held office since 2015 and is also the current president of the Swapo party. He won the 2014 elections with 87% of the vote.
