President Ramaphosa Delivers State of The Nation Address
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday deliver the State of The Nation Address, his third since taking office in 2018.
With the South African economy facing significant challenges the President shared government’s plans for tackling the “enormous and severe challenges” facing the country.
Among the announcements were additional funding for the troubled state-owned power utility Eskom, which the President said currently only had enough cash to survive until October. He also spoke about the importance of focusing on job creation, improvements to education and tackling inequality and violent crime.
President Ramaphosa also addressed the problem of corruption, announcing that measures were underway to strengthen prosecutorial and asset recovery capacities in key public institutions, as the government looks to recover billions of rand in looted funds.
