Zimbabwe among world’s least happy nations, according to UN

The United Nations’ World Happiness Index has ranked Zimbabwe, alongside South Sudan, Rwanda and the Central African Republic, as among the unhappiest countries in the world.

Only Afghanistan is less happy than the African nations, in a list of 153 countries.

Bottom five:

149) Central African Republic

150) Rwanda

151) Zimbabwe

152) South Sudan 

153) Afghanistan 

The researchers arrived at their conclusions by asking people around the world to asses their own levels of happiness, as well as taking into account factors such as national income and levels of corruption.

Nordic countries have once again topped the list, with Finland being named the world’s happiest country for a third year running. 

The researches say the happiest places are those where people feel a sense of belonging and trust their fellow citizens and institutions.

1) Finland

2) Denmark

3) Switzerland 

4) Iceland

5) Norway
