Copper Queens squad announced for Morocco clash

The Women’s National Team of Zambia, Copper Queens are gearing up to face the National team of Morocco for the Paris Olympics 2024 Qualifiers. The coach of the team, Bruce Mwape, has named a provisional 34-member squad for the clash.

The match will be held in April where the Zambian Queens have to face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco. The football team of Zambia has been working hard to make a place for themselves in the running for the Paris Olympics 2024.

The provisional squad that has been announced by the team coach includes a number of talented sportspersons. Some of the biggest names announced as part of the 34-person squad include Madrid CFF attacker, Grace Chanda.

She has returned to training with her football club after taking a nine-month-long break due to an illness. The youngster is expected to become a remarkable asset to the group and bring some experience for the rest of the team to learn from.

Meanwhile, other additions to the team who also played Ghana in the previous round include Indeni Roses’ Rhoda Chileshe. The other prominent team members are Charity Mubanga, ZESCO Ndola Girls striker, and her teammate Vast Phiri.

Talented women footballers from various local and national teams across Zambia have been called up to the Zambia National Women’s Team.

New call-ups include ZANACO Ladies defender Bernadette Mubanga and under-17 midfielder Mapalo Maluba. Israel-based goalkeeper Catherine Musonda and Turkey-based midfielder Hellen Chanda were also expected to be part of the lineup. However, they missed out due to injury.

The Copper Queens will host the Atlas Lionesses at 19:00 hours on Friday, 5 April 2024 before travelling for the away match on 9 April. The overall winner over two legs will book one of the two available spots for African nations at the Olympics.

The other slot will come from the Nigeria versus South Africa clash to complete Africa’s two representatives at the global event.

The team will start the camp on Sunday, 24 March 2024 after the FAZ Women’s Super League weekend fixtures. The officials of the Zambia.
