Jacob Zuma Flip Flops On Commission Appearance

The former President of South Africa Jacob Zuma has this week appeared before a judicial inquiry investigating allegations of corruption and state capture, many of which relate to his time as head of state.

On his third day of testimony, Wednesday, proceedings were brought to a halt, however, as a result of a dispute between his team and the inquiry as to the correct approach for questioning of the former president.

As the inquiry resumed on Friday Zuma’s legal team announced that the former president would no longer be appearing before the body. However, the inquiry chair, deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo, later announced that Zuma had relented and that he would resume his testimony following an agreement between both parties on the areas for questioning.

The former president has previously been implicated in a number of testimonies before the inquiry, including those of some of his former cabinet ministers. However, Zuma has alleged that the inquiry has been politicised and could be part of an intelligence plot to get rid of him.
