School Health Investment Shapes Zambia’s Future – PDU

The Presidential Delivery Unit –PDU- says investing in school health is an investment in Zambia’s future.

The PDU says healthy children are more likely to remain in school, perform better academically and grow into productive citizens who contribute to national development.

Speaking on behalf of PDU Head KUSOBILE KAMWAMBI during the Media Owners Engagement Workshop, Deputy Head JONES SHIMBELA said the media has a vital role in raising public awareness of the School Health Programme.

Mr. SHIMBELA said well-informed citizens are better placed to demand quality public services, leading to more effective implementation of government programmes.

He said the School Health Programme is already delivering results, with more than 1.4 million learners accessing healthcare services through 1,062 school health rooms across 45 districts.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA urged media owners to continue reporting on development programmes that improve the lives of citizens.

In remarks delivered on his behalf by Director of Human Resource and Administration LAZARUS MULENDA, Mr. KAWANA said the media plays a vital role in keeping the public informed and helping citizens understand the progress being made through government initiatives.

Learners Deputy Chief Executive Officer ANGEL CHELWA said the School Health Programme has helped reduce disease among learners while improving educational outcomes.

Ms. CHELWA said the programme has become a model of innovation, attracting interest from other African countries seeking to adopt Zambia’s approach to delivering healthcare in schools.

She urged journalists to continue reporting on the programme’s impact, saying greater public awareness will help build support for quality healthcare services for learners.
