Mozambique Businessman kidnapped in Chimoio

A local businessman was kidnapped by armed men on Saturday in the city of Chimoio, in Mozambique’s Manica Province.

Issufo Satar, who owns a variety of businesses in the provincial capital, was seized at 19:00 local time while he was leaving one of his shops. Assailants forced him into their car, a Toyota Runex, while Mr Satar was attempting to enter his own vehicle.

One of the security guards at the shop told local media that the criminals were armed and threatened him as well as Mr Satar.

“They were masked and carrying guns", he said. "They threatened my employer and put him in the car. When I wanted to intervene, they said they would shoot me”.

The kidnapping was confirmed by Manica Provincial Police Command, who said work was underway to rescue Mr Satar and apprehend his attackers.

The police are unable to give further information at this time.
