Honeymooners stranded on Maldives by virus

A South African couple on their honeymoon have been left stranded in the Maldives after the global coronavirus pandemic prevented them from returning home. 

Olivia and Raul De Freitas are the only remaining guests at the five start resort, situated in the Indian Ocean. However the couple are worried they will be bankrupted if the lockdown in their home country continues for much longer.

They are currently unable to return to South Africa, owing to the country’s three-week lockdown protocol, currently in its second week. 

Mr De Freitas said that anyone would think they wanted to be stuck on a tropical island, until it actually happens. 

The husband and wife are being waited on by the resort’s entire staff, who are unable to go home until they do.
